NEW ORGANIZATIONS / NEW ORGANIZING

Later in 2021, the city of Ebeltoft will begin to host a major architectural competition seeking proposals to redevelop the entire harbor front stretching most of the coast line near the medieval city - from the bathing hotels to just south of the small boat harbor. The publication Ebeltoft i udvikling – a multi-year report on the (re)development of Ebeltoft has studied the implications of this process on the ecology, economy, peoples, wildlife, and stakeholders any transformation process would effect.

One of the conclusions of the report is that Ebeltoft has many unique groups, peoples, and places that should be protected and further supported. However, Ebeltoft’s unique communities, association life, and commons are quite vulnerable in relation to the town’s (re)development process. How will they survive, sustain, and prosper now and in the future? Will the firm ultimately selected to redevelop Ebeltoft follow the publication’s suggestions to support the association life that is so vital to the city’s life and livelihood? What if the different associations and other harbor front groups came together to share knowledge, information, and find common ground in relation to different urban development (or many other) issues?

SUPERFORENINGEN EBELTOFT is a visual identity prototype to provoke such a question. A conglomeration of small portions of different association logos – cropped, colored, and remade into a new visual identity – make up the SUPERFORENING EBELTOFT logo. More so than just an image, the visual identity foreshadows possible new connections, interactions, and organization that could be made by associations affected by the harbor front development of Ebeltoft. Is this possible, interesting, or relevant for different groups experiencing potentially problematic eco- economic futures in Ebeltoft? Only time will tell…
